DJ Stretch Armstrong Reminisces On The Unsigned Days Of Nas, Biggie, Jay-Z & More

 

Folks over Gasface catch up with the legendary Stretch Armstrong and reminisce over them early 90′s ‘golden era’ days where the legends of Hip Hop were just unsigned hype looking to spit on  his famed college radio show with Bobbito…definitely got classic tapes off that.

Walking back from a shooting in Harlem, we bumped into Stretch Armstrong, right in front of WCKR (!)
That’s the station where he started -in 1990- what would later become the “Stretch and Bobbito Show”, which many consider the best show ever.
The guy NORE used to call “the albino ostrige” recalls a number of great moments and a greater number of (then) unsigned rappers who blazed the show : cats like Jay-Z, Eminem, Big Pun, ODB, Big L, Biggie, and also a 16 y.o kid in shorts named Nasir…

At press conterence in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for The Blueprint 3 and his current  College Campus tour Jay-Z addresses Beanie Sigel diss and remarks knocking him.

“Well, Beanie Sigel at the time, and you can look it up if you like, was driving two Bentleys. With his momma in the sticks and selling 800,000 records, I don’t know what more you can do for somebody. What people choose to do when they attain of success— at some point you have to look in the mirror, and look at yourself. Beanie Sigel had a record deal, a record label, and a clothing line. And never went platinum, ever. I don’t know in the history of rap has anyone done so much with so little. What more can you do for a person at that point. A record deal, that’s normal.
