Bolt Sets WR 9.58

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt sets a new world record for the 100 meter track & field event in historic fashion. Bolt’s big rival in the final was American Tyson Gay, but on this day Gay wasn’t even close. Watch the video to see Bolt obliterate his own world record and the competition by running the fastest 100 meters in histoy; in 9.58 seconds.

Sidebar: Tyson Gay did set an American record by running a 9.71 (the fastest 100 by any American). Also, it was a year to the day that Bolt set the previous world record of 9.69 in Beijing during the 2008 Olympics on August 16. So Lightning Bolt Struck twice on that date.
