Guru’s sister, Patricia Elam, spoke to MTV about how their family found out about his death and talks of a future memorial where fans can share their appreciation for the late rapper. Hearing some of the details surrounding the passing of Guru is truly sad and tragic…may he forever live  Above The Clouds.

Legendary producer and 1/2 of Gang Starr, Dj Premier, releases a statement since the passing of his former partner’s, Guru, passing. Despite the controversy that surrounds the alleged letter Guru wrote in his final days that took some unfavorable shots at Premo; he remained above it all with a classy declaration. Gang Starr Forever.

Guru’s family has released an official statement to the public, his supporters and fans in the wake of their family member’s passing.  Solar, Guru’s partner, released a statement claiming Guru it wrote himself but questions will be raised (if they weren’t already) after this:

The Elam family wishes to thank the fans of our son/brother/father uncle/nephew/cousin Keith aka GURU for the outpouring of love, concern and support.

Our hearts are broken by the loss of someone we loved so much. GURU was devoted to his young son, who will most keenly feel his absence.

GURU suffered from multiple myeloma for over a year.  Accrued complications from this illness led to respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.  As a result, GURU was in a coma from mid February until his death and never regained consciousness.  Early on the morning of April 19th, he became hypertensive due to low blood pressure. He again went into cardiac arrest and slipped away from us.

GURU died far too young but he was, and we are, proud of all his many legendary musical contributions.

The family is not aware of any foundations established by GURU.  We know and understand that countless fans want to express their condolences and love and, to that end, we are planning a memorial event in the near future that will be all-inclusive. Please look for further details from the family as they become available.

Although the King of Pop has passed on, his legacy still reigns above all.

Michael Jackson’s estate has struck a 10 album deal with Sony Music Corp. for $250 million; the richest record deal in history according to the Wall Street Journal. The deal requires the 10 Jackson albums will be released through 2017.

It’s also reported the the albums will be a combinations of unreleased songs and packages of familiar songs offered as collections.

The deal will allow Sony and the Jackson estate to collaborate on licensing arrangements which includes the use of the King of Pop’s music for films, television, commercials and lines of memorabilia such as clothing, toys, etc. which would prove to be very lucrative to all parties involved.

Since Michael Jackson’s death last June, he has sold 31 millions records worldwide.

I’m pretty sure MJ’s kids will benefit from the future earning and royalties; which only right but the question remains…who else from his estate benefit as well?

RIP MJ

Last night in the The Brook (Brooklyn) Diddy & Mr. Cee celebrated Biggie’s life with a tribute party that brought out Busta Rhymes, Fabolous, Red Cafe, Jadakiss, Rick Ross and Dirty Money. MTV has the full rundown.

“All Diddy told me was to set up a stage,” Brooklyn DJ Mister Cee, who discovered Biggie back in the early ’90s, said early in the night. “I don’t know who’s coming, I don’t know who’s not coming. But if you’re not in this building, you’re gonna miss something legendary. Diddy told me he’s gonna show his ass tonight. He said, ‘Tonight, I’m not Diddy, I’m back to being Puffy.’ That means he’s taking it back to ’94, ’95.”

The Source has been holding out on us…Check out the footage of Biggie’s performance during the 1995 Source Awards that they’ve finally released. In the video see B.I.G. run through his hits and see cameos by by Bad Boy’s Craig Mack, Puff Daddy, Total, Junoir Mafia, Lil’ Kim & Faith Evans.

Classic!!!! RIP Frank White!!

Props: The Source

Rest In Peace to the greatest (In My Opinion) MC to touch a mic. B.I.G. is sorely missed not just for what he brought to Hip Hop but what he brought to the lives he postively touched. His UNBELIEVABLE impact, to not just rap, but to Hip Hop as culture is still felt…even 13 years later and will continue to be felt forever…ain’t another like ya. We’ll always love BIG POPPA!!
